Last Sunday we held our first Spring Concert here at Ashwell House! All proceeds went towards our current Kenya Educational Project- some of our residents are off to Kenya in the summer to improve educational facilities in a village there and work with the children who attend the primary school. The Concert was a huge success; lots of money raised, beautiful music to be had, delicious cakes donated by the Hummingbird Bakery and a wonderful audience filled the hall!
Huge thanks goes to Alex Loewe who acted as Musical Director, piecing together a repertoire ranging from 18th century madrigals to popular Beatles tracks, via Bach, Chopin and some incredible gospel anthems. Her Psallite Choir performed alongside some extremely talented soloists which included superb singing from Maryam, Lorena and Giulia and a 30 min piano recital from Francesca.
All come together at the end with residents from Ashwell for a grand finale- Baba Yetu (the Our Father sung in the original Swahili!). This was the perfect end to a wonderful afternoon, capturing the spirit of the day and raising money for such a worthwhile cause. Huge thanks to all who attended- we hope to see you again at Ashwell soon!
